Our History
Brentwood Health Care Center (BHCC) is a 99-bed skilled nursing facility that specializes in short- and long-term rehabilitation, therapy, and assisted living. Our team brings award-winning expertise, unmatched experience, personalized continual care plans, and modern facilities to help care for families in the Sagamore Hills area.
Our objective is to heal patients back to a safe, independent community environment. Physical healing begins with personalized therapy. Our free range of rehabilitative services include physical, occupational, speech, stroke, recreational, wound and IV-therapies. Our gentle approach achieves the same results as intensive rehabilitation programs that push for maximum results in a minimum amount of time.
“When I arrived it was with great trepidation and fear of the unknown. But when it came time to leave, I almost hated to do so. And I attribute that to the excellent people who cared for me there, not the least of whom are dedicated therapists, who helped me do things I never thought I’d be able to do again. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
Brentwood opened its doors on March 23rd, 1989, in Sagamore Hills, Ohio. The center was initially built by and affiliated with Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. Its current owner and administrator, Brent Classen, managed the design, construction, and start-up of Brentwood.
Since the 1930s, the Classen family has had an active, vital and successful role in the development and history of health care in the Cleveland area. Mr. Classen’s father Theodore F. Classen, D.O., was the founder of Brentwood Hospital where he had a successful general surgery practice for 52 years. Mr. Classen’s siblings are also physicians: Roger Classen D.O. General Surgery, Greg Classen D.O. Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Gary Classen D.O. Radiologist. A third generation of Classens continue to pursue careers in medicine and have practiced or have been affiliated with Brentwood Hospital.
In 1994, Brentwood Hospital became South Pointe Hospital after a merger with Meridia Health Systems. In 1998, Meridia Health Systems merged with The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, making the former Brentwood Hospital now Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital.
As an affiliate of Brentwood Hospital, Brentwood followed along. In 2002 Brent Classen purchased Brentwood from The Cleveland Clinic to establish a family owned and operated center providing skilled nursing care and rehabilitation.
Brentwood has an excellent reputation for providing quality rehabilitation and superior care for the elderly. Currently, 90% of admissions to Brentwood return to the community after rehabilitation. We offer a wide range of continuing care services that are tailored to each individual’s needs.
BHCC is a Medicare and Medicaid certified facility that also participates in many private insurances as well as being an approved residents rights advocate by the state of Ohio. Brentwood is operated and maintained by a dedicated group of in-house staff. We never rely on outside employment agencies.
